A surprise, but grubby find at a local car boot sale, the seller only wanted a couple of pounds for it. No keyboard, mouse, or monitor was included, but hey ho
It's an Apple Power Mac G4, this will fit in nicely with my Apple Emac and Apple Macintosh SE FDHD
This particular model of the range has AGP graphics, a 400MHz processor, 1Gb RAM, a 10Gb hard disc, and a DVD-ROM drive. OS wise it has 10.4.7 installed
The sides look pleasant enough, there is a pull-tab which opens the case and reveals the motherboard, so it's very easy to work on. This can be locked to stop other people stealing parts from the machine
There are opaque handles in all four corners which make carrying the machine easy, although I'm not sure what the metal tubes on the top and bottom are for???
The unit has been well used as the grime will attest to, but it seems to work just fine, the DVD-ROM drive is the top drawer, it hinges down to reveal a normal drive, there is a small speaker on the front of the unit, and three buttons, the large one is the power button, the two lower buttons are reset on the left, and I've no idea what the right one does as nothing happens when you press it
The rear of the machine has two Firewire ports (there is an internal Firewire port as well), Ethernet, two USB 1.1, Mic and speakers, and a modem port. Video is handled by VGA and DVI-D. There is the usual power port with a switched outlet for the monitor. There is also a 25 pin dsub connector for serial or parallel, I'm not sure which
A security lock port
You can pull this out and put a padlock on it to stop the side from being opened
The side opened fully
The 10Gb hard disc and cooling fan assembly
DVD-ROM drive and PSU
DVD-ROM
I think this is where the Airport card goes
Four slots for RAM, two are populated for 1Gb
The board with large processor heatsink
The expansion slots with AGP graphics and a serial/parallel card installed
Familiar Apple boot screen
I had taken the lithium battery out already, so the OS gives the usual warning about the date being wrong, I have cleaned up the desktop
