Asus
P550 (Vodafone 1520)

This PDA was donated to me by my sister, it used to be a work phone. It is branded as a Vodafone 1520, but is actually an Asus P550

It had a horrible Vodafone branded enterprise ROM installed, which lacked shortcuts for the file explorer and games etc (although they were still installed), it also had an activity and location logger installed.

I had to flash another ROM to get rid of the logging software, which broke the GPS, but I managed to get it working again, eventually

Hardware wise its specifications include, a 520MHz processor, 240x320 resistive display, a 2 mega pixel camera, 256 MB of ROM, 64 MB of RAM, and a MiniSD card slot

Connectivity wise it has a 3G radio, Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a mini USB socket, it also had a 2.5mm headphone socket

It has a lot of hardware buttons around the device, including a scroll wheel, all of them can be remapped, I also have the extended battery option, which means a bulky back cover

The mini SD card slot and external GPS antenna are protected by rubber covers

Screen on/off and power, and the MiniUSB and headphone sockets

Close-ups of the external GPS antenna socket and Mini SD card

There is a stylus that pops out the top, and I need to have a piece of paper to wedge the battery in place

There is a LED to indicate battery/charging status, pending notifications, and whether GPS in in use

I have a custom version of Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Professional installed, it originally had 6.0

The stylus pops out the top, it is held in with friction

The about, comm manager, and volume screens

The camera is rubbish, it's only 2 mega pixel and takes blurry photos

However the GPS feature is great, I have Tomtom Navigator 7 installed

Here are some Start menu shots

The only games are Solitaire and a frustrating version of the Rubik's Cube, this is a custom ROM, and I can't remember if the cube puzzle was originally installed

It's quite heavy with the extended battery, and almost as large as my Huawei P Smart
