I have been after one of these for the museum for as long as I can remember
The original Atari VCS, or Video Computer System, this is not the original original "heavy sixer" which was released in 1977, but the slightly later "light sixer" from 1978. This was before the console was known as the 2600, which was the model number, CX2600
Later versions moved the difficulty switches to the rear and retaining the four remaining buttons on the front
I found this example on FB Marketplace being sold as untested with accessories for £40
The museum already has several of the later 2600Jr consoles
The hardware consists of a MOS/Rockwell 6507 CPU running at 1.19 MHz, 128 bytes of RAM, and the TIA (Television Interface Adapter) graphics and sound chip
On this version we have the six switches on the top of the console either side of the cartridge slot
The switches are, Power, TV type, Left difficulty (Cartridge slot) Right difficulty, Game select, and Game reset. The latter two are momentary switches whereas the rest are toggle switches
On the front is the wooden panel with Atari logo printed on the right side
The base of the console has a cutout for the channel select which was not used in PAL-Land
The rear of the console has two controller ports and the power socket
The side profiles will be familiar to those of us who like PONG consoles
Controllers
Four joysticks were included
Two CX10's and two CX40's (I believe)
And two paddles which are connected by a single cable
An RF lead was included, this was meant to go into a switch box, it is not for this console though as the RF lead is hardwired
It also came with three games as well, Pac-Man, Tennis and a copy of Asteroids which was still in a bag
The RF plug looks like it was torn off, should be an easy repair when I get round to it
