I found this at Axminster car boot sale and bought it along with three other items for a total of £10
This is the Microspeech from Currah for the Sinclair Spectrum, this little unit gave the Speccy speech capability, even if it did sound like a Dalek. It used sounds to produce words so had an unlimited vocabulary, but you may have had to spell words phonetically to produce the correct pronouncement
It came in its rather flattened box
And with its plastic tray, instruction book, and software cassette
The cassette gives no clues as to what it contains, and as the Microspeech works as soon as you turn on the spectrum, giving speech with every keypress. No software needs to be loaded first
It's quite small in size, but lies flat behind the Speccy, with no passthrough connector
The two plugs connect to the Speccy's Ear and TV sockets, the RF is routed through the Microspeech, and the sound is added to the RF signal, so the Speccy's sound now comes out the TV, along with the speech. The existing RF lead connects to the socket on the back of the Microspeech
The Microspeech next to the cassette, it really is quite small
