My Retro Gaming Projects

Here are some of my old projects and Retropie builds

The Retropie builds were before I discovered running Retropie on an old desktop PC is much better

It's a Dell Optiplex 3040 to be precise, I may even include it in the museum at some point

It has a Core i5 3.20GHz processor with 8GB of RAM, I have installed Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with the x86 version of Retropie and it runs everything including the Sega Saturn which no Raspberry Pi can do yet

The projects are copied across from my old site and may not be relevant today, but I've included them because why not?

There are 12 retro projects in the museum

Retropie Cassette

My Raspberry Pi Zero installed inside an old VHS cassette, it could play most 8 bit and some 16 bit systems just fine, although soon I needed more power

Retropie Brick

I upgraded my Retropie build to a Rasperry Pi 3B+, but now I needed a new case, so rather than use the mini NES cases everyone else was using, I went a different way

Sinclairian - The ZX Spectrum on your Raspberry Pi

Sinclairian is just Raspbian + Fuse (The Free Unix Spectrum Emulator) with a dash of Retropie and some inspiration from Combian64 and Amibian thrown together into the mixing bowl

Android Dash Cam

I wanted a dashcam, so I made one out of an old phone...

Cheap Car Upgrades

As 2020 was so boring, I ordered some parts for my old Mk2 Ford Focus

Satnav Clock

I randomly decided to turn an old sat nav into a travel clock for no good reason

Car Stereo Upgrade

I got bored with the very loud, but non DAB radio in my old Mk2 Ford Focus

Fiesta Door

Broken hinge dramas

LibreELEC Button

How to add a reset and shutdown button to LibreELEC on the Raspberry Pi

Multiple Vice On Retropie

Outdated tutorial on how to have multiple instances of Vice on Retropie, C64, Plus 4, Vic 20 etc

Project Phone

The original #projectphone before the battery died

Project Phone Reborn

The replacement #projectphonereborn before I got bored with it and moved on to other projects

The dark area

I hope you all find this as interesting and as nostalgic as I do.

And if you do, why not check out the next page in my retro museum... Recreations

Or to quicky jump to another room of the museum, click or tap on Rooms at the bottom of this screen

Special thanks to my long-suffering partner Denise for putting up with all this "nonsense".

No cats were unnecessarily annoyed during the creation of this site

Speaking of cats, did you see one here?
