I have recently acquired a load of old laptops, and it has spurred me on to document the laptops I did have, but not yet listed on my site, so I shall start with this one, which is an Acer E51-512, which is, let's say, a bit of a cost reduced laptop, it's more like a net book in a larger form factor. This laptop has some issues however, notably the lines across the screen, if you press down on the bezel under the lines, you can make them disappear, other problems include the keyboard only half works, and the battery had to be removed as it was swelling up, the battery in this laptop was more like a lithium mobile phone battery and was stuck inside the case with double sided tape
Not much going on on the top and bottom of the case, you have to open the laptop case up to access the main board (and battery), and everything is soldered to the small motherboard with no chance of upgrading it other than RAM which only has one slot, and the 2 1/2" hard disc
There's no optical drive, just a blanking cover on the right hand side
The ports on the rear are power, headphone, USB3 and USB2, HDMI, and ethernet
Kensington lock, USB2 and an SD card reader, it does support SDHC, but not SDXC
Without the battery fitted, the laptop is quite light, but very flimsy, the touch-pad is multi-touch, and clicks down when pressed hard, but does support light finger taps so you don't need to push down hard to select something. And it has a web cam and microphone
The lines on the screen, I could probably fix this, but can't be bothered
It originally came with Windows 7, and was upgraded to Windows 10, but managed to corrupt itself so it wouldn't boot, so I wiped it and it's had a few different Linux distros installed, currently it has Xubuntu which runs well
The latest Xubuntu runs very well, it does struggle with full Ubuntu though
These are the best I can do for specifications. It's a Celeron clocked at 2.16GHz. Not shown here are the details for the 512GB hard disc and 2GB of RAM
Because the keyboard isn't working, I need to plug in a USB one, and using one on a laptop is more awkward than you would think it was
And it required a boat-load of updates, and as I need to use the PSU from this laptop for some of the others, made it seem to take much longer than it actually took
