As with all the computers I collect, I normally have been after one for ages, and this one is no exception, I present the Commodore 128, the upgrade from the C64/C64c, the last 8-bit computer Commodore made, it really is three machines in one, It has the C128 default mode, but it can be made to run as a C64, and thanks to its Z80 co-processor, it can run CP/M In C128 mode it can run in 80 column mode via the RGBI port, and has a Z80 co-processor so it can run CP/M which was a popular business operating system with a huge software library available. In C64 mode all the extra features of the C128 are not available I got this one fully working with loads of accessories from Ebay, the listing claimed "Just add games", and they were right The C128 has extra keys compared to a C64, but the extra keys don't work when in C64 mode, the case is styled to look like the later C64c which kinds resembles an Amiga A500 The left side of the computer is empty, while the right side contains two joystick ports, a reset button, power switch, and a power socket The rear of the machine contains the ROM cartridge slot, datassette connector, serial and video ports, H-L switch (in some markets only), RGBI monitor socket, and the user port, the sockets are compatible with the C64's ports except the power and RGBI sockets This is the PSU, it is different to the C64's PSU and has a different plug The square plug, and the cable has a nick in it, you can see copper in it, but I think this is the screening, however all voltages are present and correct I have another boxed datassette to add to the collection And I finally have a disk drive, it's the later 1541-II model, it has the switch on the back to change the drive number, as well as two serial ports and a power connector and switch. You may notice it even has the drive protector inserted The bottom of the disk drive The disk drive's PSU, all voltages are present and correct here as welll Serial disk drive and composite video cable Another Zipstick to add to the collection It's always a nervous time going for the first power up Success, it works, in C128 and C64 modes, you can type GO64 in C128 mode or hold down the Commodore key at power on to access the C64 mode, now the machine is a C64 Doing my usual BASIC tests, everything seems to work, so happy days ?OUT OF MEMORY ERROR
