I took a chance on an "untested" Commodore C64c, the listing was for the machine only, no cables, PSU, or datasette. And to my surprise, it booted up and works perfectly. It's a bit yellowed in places, but it works
Operationally they are the same machine as the earlier C64, but externally the case has been redesigned as a sleeker more modern case, and internally there are some hardware differences, the most documented is that the SID chip sounds different to the original, and when there is an whole army of SID music fans, this is the end of the world. However the differences between the two SIDs can be corrected for in software. The chip count was also reduced by reducing the amount of RAM chips, and combining the BASIC and KERNAL into one chip
The keyboard has the same layout as before
The ports are in the same places as the earlier C64
As you can see, it works! There's not much more to say about it
